It had to happen sooner or later. With over 80000 special interest WebRings in existence, one of them had to be created for French Citizens abroad. This is the one. This Ring welcomes all Francophile sites in French or in English. Especially welcome are pages created by French expatriates (individuals and associations), French schools abroad, French Alliances, pages of Foreigners established in France, and other Francophile sites established abroad or having an international or multicultural scope.

Ça devait arriver un jour ou l'autre. Il y a maintenant plus de 80000 anneaux (WebRings), l'un d'entre eux se devait d'être consacré aux Français de l'étranger. Le voici. Cet anneau accueille tous les sites Francophiles en Français ou en Anglais. Sont tout particulièrement bienvenus les sites créés par des Français expatriés (individus ou associations), les pages des établissements scolaires Français à l'étranger et des Alliances Françaises, les sites des Etrangers établis en France, et toutes les autres pages francophiles ayant une perspective internationale ou multiculturelle.

• Hub Help. General information. Note that "Français de l'étranger" relies on services provided free of charge by the WebRing organization (now a division of Yahoo! Inc.). They pay their bills with the banner ads which appear on some of the "centralized" ring pages (like the randomized directory of our sites). The management of the "Français de l'étranger" WebRing has no control over such ads and does not derive any revenue from them.
• The Hub is the directory of all the sites in the "Français de l'étranger" (Patrie) WebRing. Sites are listed in the Hub according to this week's particular order. The Ring is randomly reordered on a weekly basis, so that the neighbors ('previous' and 'next') of each site change every week. In the long run, each site of the Ring stands the same chance to receive a lot of traffic from the Ring's most popular sites.

• Join this ring. Just fill out a simple form about your site and we will include it automatically in the Ring within a week or less (pending further review by the RingMaster, who can be contacted to speed up the process). Details below.

• Click here to join this ring : "Français de l'étranger" (RingID = Patrie). We do recommend this link rather than the generic form supplied by the WebRing organization itself. However, either one does exactly the same thing, if you do not need the extra advice we provide (length of your text, avoidance of double-quotes, etc.).
  Once you complete the form, we will provide you with a customized HTML fragment to paste on your registered page. The system will then put you automatically in the Ring during its regular check for HTML fragment compliance (the critical links on member Sites are tested about once a week). You will also be given an opportunity to contact the RingMaster to speed up the process if you wish. If the RingMaster happens to be availaible to review your Site, it could be made part of the Ring in a matter of minutes! (Or else, the automated process guarantees it will only be a matter of days.) The RingMaster has final say about what sites remain in the Ring, but he is a nice fellow who cares only about the francophile part of your Site and the presence of the ring's navigation bar on it (which must appear at least once on the exact page you register, possibly within one of its constituting 'frames'). There are two versions (English and French) of the navigation bar which look like this:

• You may want to experiment right now with the width of your browser's window to see how each bar looks in different environments. The sizes of these bars match the width of a standard Internet banner (468 by 60 pixels when borderless); their respective nominal sizes, typical of most computer setups, are 469 by 25 pixels (French) and 471 by 25 pixels (English). In a smaller window or frame, these bars become two-line banners, 34 pixels in height, which use all the available width. That width could be as small as 310 pixels for the French version and 317 pixels for the English one. Anything narrower than this is not recommended.
• The corresponding customized HTML code is to be pasted on your page when you join. This HTML fragment is the only thing you have to put on your page, and it only adds 2K to it. There are no external graphics whatsoever, in order not to slow down your page or distract your visitors from the rest of your site. Yet, the design remains distinctive enough to be instantly recognizable by ring users. We supply fragments which are fully customized for your Site when you apply, but you may still be curious and have a quick look at the general template of the HTML fragment (using SiteID=14, "Sondage" for demonstration purposes). If you want to use this for your own page, you would have to replace the 7 occurrences of "id=14;" so that your own SiteID is shown instead. You would also have to replace the string "Sondage" by whatever title you feel is appropriate for the particular page you intend to paste the fragment on (this may or may not be the official title you registered for the site). NOTE that you must make sure that your title string does not contain any blank spaces at all. Wherever you need a space, put the 3 characters "%20" instead, or else some browsers (like Netscape 4.7) will only display the first word of your title. For your convenience, we also present the above information visually on two other pages:

• If you are a new applicant or an established Member, you may change the information about your Site at any time by logging on to your own update page (using your Site ID number and password). You may do so either at the bottom of this page or on a special login page. (It's also possible to log in at the general ring management page of WebRing.org, where you will also have to type in the Ring ID of "Français de l'étranger", which is "patrie".)
